Jo Lucas

Hello. I am Jo. I work as a psychotherapist, counsellor, supervisor and coach.

I have worked with people with a wide range of issues, including: low self esteem, anxiety, low self confidence, relationship problems, loss and trauma. I have also worked in a wide variety of organisations, including as a chief executive of small one, so I have a particular interest and understanding of the pressures we face when trying to carve out some space for ourselves in relation to work and in dealing with the issues arising from being in a team or organisation. I also have a good understanding of the pressure faced by women in developing their careers and their businesses.

I offer evening appointments, as well as appointments during office hours.

Jo Lucas – background

I have worked in mental health services for most of my professional life, starting at Fulbourn Hospital, Cambridge, on the Young Peoples Unit. Then I worked in two psychiatric halfway houses, practiced as a social worker, as a social work trainer and consultant and for Mind, both locally and nationally. I also worked at Centre 33, a young person’s counselling service in Cambridge, as a counsellor.

I ran business networking groups for women running their own small businesses and have worked internationally for 15 years establishing social work education and mental health services.

As a therapist, I start from the significance of the relationship between the two people in the room and my belief that people can change and grow. I now also offer sand tray therapy where we work with symbols, images, to help clarify problems and identify changes.

As a coach I start from the same place, with the two people in the room, and our focus is what is happening at work, where you might be feeling stuck, where you want to go next.

I originally trained in Gestalt counselling in the 80s and ran a counselling service from a local Mind Association. I have a BSc in psychology and sociology, an MSc in Integrative psychotherapy from the Metanoia Institute, London and an MSc in social policy from LSE. I have completed  certificate courses in Relational Coaching and in Supervision and have completed the initial sand play therapy training with the AIST.

I am registered with UKCP and I am bound by the UKCP ethical framework and subject to their professional conduct procedures.

I am available Monday and Tuesdays all day and evenings and some Wednesday afternoons.
